Mini-pupillages at Atkin Chambers

Atkin Chambers runs at least two one-day, group mini-pupillages across the year.

This allows us to provide a more rounded experience and more access to a wider range of members of Chambers, so that mini-pupils gain a better idea of who we are and what we do.

In advance of the day, mini-pupils are sent papers to read and consider in advance – these will be discussed during the day with the members of Chambers who originally worked on them.

Lunch provides an opportunity to meet a number of members of Chambers and discuss their practices more informally.

We also include a round-table discussion on life at the Bar and practice at the Construction Bar more specifically.

We do not assess mini-pupils and mini-pupillage is not a pre-requisite to applying for pupillage. We see mini-pupillage primarily as helpful for potential applicants who need to make decisions about pupillage applications by providing some familiarity with the areas of law in which the barristers at Atkin Chambers specialise and a taste of life at the Bar in general.

How to apply for mini-pupillage

Please send a CV and a covering letter* addressed to “The Pupillage Committee Administrator” at pupillage@atkinchambers.com.

Applicants should state a preference for which date they wish to attend.

We ask please that applicants not apply earlier than 2nd year law or 3rd year non-law. We welcome applications from those studying the BPC or GDL.

*No more than two pages in length please.

Dates for 2024

Atkin Chambers’ mini-pupillage days for 2024 are Thursday 21st March and Thursday 20th June. Applications for these dates are now closed. Dates for 2025 will be released later this year. Click here to sign up for pupillage updates

Reasonable adjustments

Please let us know if you would like to request any reasonable adjustments for the day.

Pupillage expenses policy

For successful applicants to this scheme Chambers will reimburse all reasonable travel expenses and overnight accommodation nearby if required.

It is helpful please if candidates raise any requests for fares and accommodation when organising mini-pupillage dates and before their mini pupillage begins.

Grant schemes for aspiring barristers

Applicants may also want to note that Lincoln’s Inn has a grant scheme which specifically supports mini-pupillages (link to mini-pupillage grant scheme) which they made find useful. For details on other sources of funding please click here.
