Nicholas Dennys QC discusses the government’s recent decision to approve ‘in principle’ Heathrow’s third runway and suggests that there are lessons that can be learnt from other airports which should be applied to Heathrow in order to achieve success.

These lessons are described as:

  • sustained commitment from government and stakeholders
  • time spent on planning is well spent
  • choose your contractors wisely
  • be careful how risk is apportioned.
