Professor Doug Jones AO wins GAR Award for “Best prepared and most responsive arbitrator”

13th Jul 2020

Professor Doug Jones AO was presented with the Award for “Best prepared and most responsive arbitrator” at the first virtual GAR Awards ceremony on 9 July 2020.

Over 350 guests attended the ceremony which was held as part of the adapted virtual Paris Arbitration Week.

In his acceptance speech Doug said he was deeply honoured to have received the award, particularly given the stature of previous recipients.

“Since commencing as a full time independent arbitrator,” he continued: “I have always regarded it as an honour and a privilege to serve in this role. Having striven to achieve high standards for presentation and responsiveness it is especially gratifying to have been recognised in this way.

“It also gives me great pleasure to thank my small team – past and present – who over the years as students and first year lawyers have assisted me to stay on top of my commitments – I am proud of them and grateful for the opportunity to have worked with and mentored them at the commencement of their careers in the law.

“Finally may I express my appreciation to David Samuels and his team at GAR who do so much to contribute to the collegiality of our international arbitration community especially at a time when we must all work together to meet the challenges we all presently face.”
