Sir Robert Akenhead joins Atkin Chambers

Sir Robert was a tenant at Atkin Chambers from 1973 until his elevation to the bench in 2007. During this time he practised as a specialist construction law barrister, in court and in arbitration, dealing with a wide range of infrastructure project disputes, and related issues. In addition to an extensive domestic practice, he also developed an impressive international practice which has taken him to most parts of the world during his career, including Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Australia, USA, the Caribbean and Europe.

He is an experienced arbitrator, adjudicator and conciliator, and has also previously been involved in Dispute Review Boards.

Sir Robert was a High Court Judge for 8 years between 2007 and 2015, during which time he dealt with all types of construction, engineering and technology cases, including appeals from and challenges to arbitral awards. Between 2011 and 2013 he was judge appointed in charge of the Technology and Construction Court.

He is also an editor of the Building Law Reports.
