A number of members of Chambers are instructed in one of The Lawyer’s Top 20 Cases for 2022.
In Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust v Lendlease Construction (Europe) and Others:
The case concerns structural defects at Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust’s flagship Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital which opened in 2015 and cost £75m to build. In February 2021 the trust launched a court case against Lendlease after significant structural defects were identified in the building. The case triggered counterclaims by Lendlease against several of its sub-contractors over liability for the alleged defects. The trust is seeking nearly £100m in damages, compensation and remedial works.
Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital provides specialist emergency care for seriously ill and injured patients from across Northumberland and North Tyneside. It is England’s first purpose-built specialist emergency care hospital, with emergency consultants on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as well as consultants in a range of specialties working seven days a week.
