EU ruling on Aberthaw Power Station set to speed up coal’s demise and cause enforcement of anti-pollution terms

In his article for Construction News Jonathan Acton Davis QC suggests that the recent ECJ decision against the UK government on Aberthaw Power Station is set to speed up the demise of open cast mining in Wales and cause the Government to advance plans to decommission our fleet of coal-fired stations. Additionally, we can expect Governments Departments to enforce contractual provisions designed to protect the environment. With the volatile matter content of Aberthaw’s combustion fuel exceeding the 10% limit, it has been forced import cleaner coal from around the world.
