David Barnes leads one of the Bar’s most experienced clerking and administration teams.
David has primary responsibility for managing the practice of each member of Chambers and for delivering a high-quality service to members’ clients globally. His detailed knowledge of each member’s respective practice ensures he is well-placed to advise clients on the most appropriate counsel for their case.
David was awarded ‘Chambers CEO of the Year’ in 2022 for the second time in The Legal 500 UK Bar Awards (he also won in 2015). In 2011, he was named in The Lawyer’s Hot 100.
David was appointed President of the Institute of Barristers’ Clerks in 2026. He had previously been Chairman of the IBC between 2010 and 2013 and Vice President from 2014 – 2026. He is a current member of Counsel magazine’s editorial board and sits on the Technology and Construction Courts Users Committee. David is a former advisory board member of the IBA Law Firm Management Committee.
David successfully led Atkin Chambers to two Queen’s Awards for Enterprise (International Trade) in 2005 and 2020.
