Atkin Chambers at the Society of Construction Law Australia Conference

A delegation from Atkin Chambers will be attending this year’s Society of Construction Law Australia (SoCLA) Conference, taking place between 5th and 8th May in Sydney. Members include Andrew Goddard KC, Karim Ghaly KC, Lauren Adams and Door Tenants including The Hon James Allsop AC, The Hon Anthony Besanko SC and Professor Doug Jones AO. They will be joined by Chambers’ Chief Executive and Director of Clerking, David Barnes, and Consultant Rod Noble.

Members will be speaking at the following events:

Tuesday 5th May, 5pm – 8pm
‘Tracing a Construction Dispute’

Members of Atkin Chambers will be speaking at this conference adjacent event, hosted by The Lighthouse Club Sydney, ACICA and SoCLA, which will trace a construction dispute (based on the facts of an actual but unidentified dispute) moving through all legal processes to judgment via mediation and arbitration.

Proceedings will commence with a welcome address from Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales and Atkin Chambers’ Door Tenant, before the seminar continues with the following speakers:

  • The Hon Anthony Besanko KC of Atkin Chambers as the judge
  • Ronan Collins, Managing Director of FTI Singapore, as the narrator
  • Sadie Andrew, Partner at Pinsent Masons, as the solicitor
  • Susanna Taylor, Head of Investments APAC at Litigation Capital Management, as the litigation funder
  • Dennis Wilson, solicitor and mediator, as the mediator
  • Karim Ghaly KC of Atkin Chambers as counsel
  • Andrew Goddard KC of Atkin Chambers as the arbitrator
  • Camilla Drover, Chief Executive of Motorways at Transport for New South Wales, as the employer

‘International Panel – Planning in a world of uncertainty: An international perspective on mitigating risk and resolving disputes in challenging times.’

Atkin Chambers’ Lauren Adams will join this panel discussion alongside Scott Thompson, co-head of Construction, Energy and Infrastructure at MinterEllisonRuddWatts; Andrea De Biase, Senior Associate at Clayton Utz; Ben Olbourne of 39 Essex Chambers and Thomas Crangle of 4 Pump Court.
