Shourav Lahiri will be speaking on “Admissibility of illegally obtained evidence in international arbitration” as part of the Nani Palkhivala Arbitration Centre’s 13th Annual International Conference.

Titled “The Evolving Arbitration Framework in India – Challenges and Opportunities”, the conference will be held on Saturday April 9, 2022 in New Delhi and online.

About the event:

In the last few years, the importance of arbitration as a quick and cost-effective mode of resolution of disputes has been recognised in India. Development of the law and practice of arbitration in India in ensuring quicker resolution of disputes will enhance India’s performance in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index and contribute towards India becoming a global arbitration hub. In this regard, assessing the evolution of the arbitration framework in India, current trends and future trajectory is a crucial step. There are multiple questions and scenarios, an understanding and analysis of which would reveal various challenges and opportunities which impact the growth of arbitration. Some of these include regulatory aspects such as impact of recent amendments in domestic arbitrations, issues relating to “unilateral appointment”, seeking legislative intervention in arbitration law and statutory arbitrations improving the regime for enforcement of foreign awards. Further, there are many practical aspects for consideration such as third-party funding in arbitrations, consolidation of multiparty, multi contract arbitrations, use and impact of technology on arbitration proceedings, dimensions of a corporate policy on alternative dispute resolution and improving the arbitral process for corporate consumption.

The agenda for the conference includes presentation of papers by eminent practitioners of arbitration law from across the globe, partners/associates of various domestic and international law firms as well as discussions on current affairs and trends in arbitration law in relation to the theme of the conference.
