The Pupillage

The pupillages offered are normally 12 month pupillages, but pupillages of other durations may also be offered. Each pupil will spend three months with two pupil masters and six months with a third. All the requirements of the Technology and Construction check list will be covered (providing a good grounding in the High court and appellate Court and commercial arbitration procedures). As well as undertaking written work pupils will be required to participate in structured advocacy training organised by Chambers(in addition to the training required by the Bar Council's consolidated Regulation Number 43).

The pupillage will be hard work. Candidates will need to be focused and conscientious. The intended purpose of the pupillage is to develop the pupil's ability to work through to the end of sometimes extended and complex problems and to produce justifiable and judged analyses of the legal and commercial issues.

While pupils will be encouraged to accept their own instructions in the second six-month period, such commitments will be limited to those which are consistent with satisfactory completion of the pupillage.
